wedding daze: is a theme necessary?

Hi, hi, hi!

Let's tackle a topic that many people have difficulty getting started on: choosing a theme for the most important day of their life.

When we began wedding planning, we were under the impression that you couldn't plan a wedding without a theme set in place.

Little did we know, our "theme" would go from a Fall wedding covered in deep colors and apple pies to a Spring wedding saturated in pastel colors and cotton candy.

Now, I understand having a vision for your special day. & that's great. However, do NOT get carried away with sticking to it.

*whoa* plot twist.

I'm sure many of you have Pinterest boards and wedding magazines overflowing your coffee table and side table and car...

Those are helpful, but in my opinion, they can become overwhelming.

The magazines and internet are filled with great ideas for weddings. Some completely attainable, others - usually the ones you love - remain out of reach.

When you are designing and planning and pinning, keep how you want your day to feel like at the top of the list. NOT the colors of the flowers, which linen looks best with your table runners, or how the way your bridesmaids' hair will be styled.

Keep this question in mind: How do you want your love to be represented at your wedding?

Do you want your wedding to give the vibe of a backyard party? A night on the town? An elegant affair? Something more formal or relaxed?

With all of that said, I WILL provide a couple of my favorite ideas (not full themes) for you to use as inspiration - as if you need more.

1. Greenery & LOTS of it. My take on greenery is this: the more that is there naturally, the better.

If this is something that is important to you - or should I say on your Pinterest board, circled in all of your magazines, and in your dreams - find a venue that is naturally filled with overgrown trees, vines, & flowers.

This will not only save on money, but if you happen to forget a floral arrangement or don't think about your ceremony site having garland(s) - trust me that happens - knowing that your venue is already covered in beauty naturally will allow you to rest a little easier.

Tip: For a more elegant use of greenery/florals - wrap vines around cocktail tables (I think this one can be used for either type) and on draping in the tent or building (if using one)

For a less elegant use of greenery/florals - use mason jars with baby's breath bouquets and use vines on your sweetheart table (this idea can be used for both!)

2. Lawn games. Okay so this may only apply to those who are having a wedding that is a little less formal. But truly, giving the guests something to do other than drink during the cocktail hour can be reassuring. Knowing that while you and your new husband are taking pictures, they'll be entertained and not just getting plastered.

We had cornhole, tick tac toe, and ladder toss at our wedding and as far as we know, everyone had a blast and didn't notice we went over our allotted time slot for post-ceremony photos

3. Lounge Sets. I absolutely LOVE lounge sets. I really think these add just an extra touch at weddings.

Not only will your photographer love taking pictures of the little details, but your guests will love having somewhere comfy to sit other than just the reception foldable chairs.

I really think that lounge sets can be added to both formal and less formal weddings. I recommend doing at least one with a full couch, a coffee table, and two chairs.

Overall, don't get caught up with one theme. And don't stress if something you love doesn't make the cut.

Something my dad told me frequently throughout the planning process really helped and stuck with me and I'm going to share it with you!

"No one will know what was suppose to be there and what wasn't."

I hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

XO.
