Kitchen Remodel Part 2 - Demolition

Writer: KelliKelli

Oh hello!

It's been a little bit since I did a kitchen update.

Currently, our house is in shambles. Utter chaos. However, things are moving, progressing, changing, and it's exctiting.

We have done quite a lot in regards to progressing through the remodel. It's like I can ALMOST see the light at the end of the tunnel. We have a long way to go, however it's been fun.

I have helped with a lot of the demolition, but a cold caught up to me & I'm out for the count, but I don't think I'll be missed too much. My husband and dad have taken over the heavy lifting and I've reverted back to design work (my favorite part anyway).

As I sit here writing this, with watery eyes, a constant tickle in my nose, and a headache that won't stop throbbing from this unforgivable cold, I can't help but feel a sense of appreciation and happiness. Yes, I'm thankful for the obvious - we are lucky enough to be able to renovate our kitchen.

However, I'm even more appreciative that we get to work on this together, with family, with our own hands. We are lucky enough to know how to do so much, if not all, of the labor ourselves. And what's even better, is if we don't know something, my dad comes in and saves the day.

It's awesome to learn from family - regardless of what the subject is, learning from family and loved ones brings a whole new sense of appreciation to the equation.

My family is awesome. All of them. My mom's side, my dad's side, my in-laws. They all rock. I'm very lucky in that sense. What I lack, they have.

Okay, back on topic.

I haven't gotten a whole lot of photos, however, if you follow my Instagram, you've seen the full process.

Here are a couple of photos (from my phone - sorry for the bad quality!) of the work that's been done.

The photo above is my handsome husband tearing out the drywall and tile before we moved on to taking the floor out and raising the ceiling!

And here is a photo in the exact current state of the kitchen as I type this. We raised the ceiling to be the same height throughout the house. I stated this is a previous post, but this house was built in 1977 & they dropped the ceiling almost an entire foot to put a box light in. (horrible)

Today's goals are to re-drywall the ceiling and get the recessed lighting in and hopefully functioning.

Also, cut the hole for the pot filler above our stove and re-drywall that wall. Not too hopeful for that, but definitely hopeful for the ceiling!

Hope this post wasn't too jumbled or jumpy - my brain is so foggy thanks to this cold & the medication.

I'm excited to see the progress and to share all the steps and decisions.

Happy Saturday y'all!

XO.
